Reliance Bluegrass, winners of the prestigious “Best Band” competition at the 29th Annual Smoky Mountain Fiddlers Convention, will headline the Cowboy Gospel Jubilee Friday night at 7 p.m.

The show is free and open to the public.

“This is Reliance’s second time to headline the Jubilee,” said “The Gospel Gun,” the Rev. Will Nichols, announcer and producer of the local music show. “We’re excited to host this incredible family Bluegrass band.”

The Raper family — Ronnie, Denise, Dustin and Nick — make up the contemporary/gospel bluegrass band and hail from Etowah. They have been playing together more than 13 years.

“Their tight harmonies and rich blends make for a sound that is unique to family vocals,” said Nichols.

“When you add the exceptional instrumental talents of the Raper family, you end up with an extraordinary band. Add to that the warmth and genuineness of Ronnie, Denise, Dustin and Nick — and you end up with an unforgettable show that draws people in and makes new fans everywhere they play.”

Ronnie, a first-class rhythm and lead guitarist, shares the stage with his wife, Denise, who is a solid bass player and a former Southern Gospel singer and pianist. Eldest son Dustin adds impeccable traditional and contemporary banjo stylings while youngest son Nicholas is a gifted mandolin player, added Nichols.

The Jubilee is a fast-paced, Opry-style show that features multiple performers and various styles of music. Regulars appearing on the Jubilee include Southern Gospel singer Amy McAlister, singer-songwriter Elmer Bramlett, the Cowboy Church Band and Chorale, as well as”The Wild Man” Danny O’Boyle, Nichols said.

The Cowboy Gospel Jubilee is held at the Cleveland Cowboy Church in the Dockery Heights community at 3040 Blythe Road, off Dockery Lane, between Blue Springs and Blackburn Roads. A love offering is taken.
