Adam Willis, 25, was identified as the person who was driving a motorcycle late Sunday afternoon on Westside Drive, lost control and crashed, dying later at a local hospital, according to a report filed by officer Josh Nix.
According to witnesses listed in the report, Willis was headed north on Westside Drive near Cherokee Pharmacy when his 2004 Suzuki GXR sport bike left the roadway and struck a utility pole and then a tree. Willis was reportedly thrown from the cycle.
Bradley County Emergency Medical Service paramedics responded to the scene and transported him to SkyRidge Medical Center where he died later, according to the report.
Bradley County Sheriff’s Office officials continue to work to keep drivers informed about Operation Lifesaver, which was instituted by Sheriff Jim Ruth in late 2011.
Tennessee Department of Safety officials have also noticed an increase in traffic-related fatalities and are currently listing fatality counts on message signs across the state, hoping to raise driver awareness.
According to data from TDOS, 13 people were killed in traffic crashes during the Memorial Day weekend. The numbers indicated a decline relating to 2011 when 19 people died on Tennessee’s roadways.
“We continue to aggressively enforce speed laws and make sure everyone is buckled up,” said Sgt. Andy Smith of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit.
“Our intent is to keep everyone safe who travels on our roadways,” he added.
