NASHVILLE — Cleveland area student Kayla Lupo was awarded a bachelor of social work from Lipscomb University at the conclusion of the spring semester 2012.
The May 5 commencement ceremony marked the largest graduating class in Lipscomb’s history as the university awarded 542 degrees to May 2012 graduates and recognized 134 August 2012 graduates.
Lupo, a Cleveland High School graduate, studied social work and has completed all the credits necessary to graduate magna cum laude, Lipscomb President L. Randolph Lowry said. This student was also included on Lipscomb’s provost’s list for the spring 2012 semester.

Lipscomb also offers 24 graduate degrees and seven graduate certificate programs in 40 fields of study, including doctorate degrees in pharmacy, education and ministry.
Cleveland student named to dean’s list at Berkeley College
Dr. Dario A. Cortes, Berkeley College president, is proud to announce that Lydia Garrett of Cleveland has been named to the dean’s list at Berkeley College for the Winter 2012 quarter. Garrett is pursuing her degree through Berkeley College Online.
“Berkeley College is proud to recognize Lydia for her outstanding academic achievement,” Cortes said. “Students who reflect this level of dedication to their studies become our future leaders.”
Berkeley College students who achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or better with a minimum of 12 academic credits qualify for the dean’s list.

Awards received from Lipscomb University by Cleveland students
NASHVILLE — Several Cleveland area students have been honored at Lipscomb University for academic achievement during the spring semester 2012, said Dr. Craig Bledsoe, provost.
Students included on the provost’s list and honor roll were:

Emily Hill, undeclared, honor roll, Cleveland High School
At the end of each semester, students who make perfect grades for the semester while taking at least 12 credit hours are named to the provost’s list. Students who achieve a grade average of 3.5 to 3.99 are named to the honor roll.
Joshua Eckelberry awarded Frazier Scholarships at ETSU
JOHNSON CITY — East Tennessee State University has named the recipients of the $250 Mayme Frazier Scholarships for 2012. The awards are given to undergraduate or postgraduate students who are preparing for careers in health care.
Joshua Eckelberry of Cleveland is the son of Mieke Lee and Scott Eckelberry. He is a sophomore majoring in biology with a concentration in biochemistry. Elected vice president of the American Medical Student Association, he is a member of the President’s Pride service honorary. He received his certified nursing assistant licensure through Walker Valley High School and volunteers at Niswonger Children’s Hospital.
Caitlin Swanson makes the honor’s list at Hiwassee College
Madisonville — Hiwassee College has announced the honors List for students enrolled in the spring 2012 semester. One student from the Cleveland area was among this semester’s honorees. Making the dean’s list was Caitlin Michelle Swanson of Cleveland. To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must carry no less than 12 semester hours with a GPA of between 3.50 and 3.99.
Jane Dye, Registrar, said, “It has always been the purpose of the college to give young people an opportunity to combine Christianity and scholarship in a thoroughly practical manner. We are proud of our students and their achievements as they prepare for their future careers.”
Hiwassee College was founded in 1849 and is located in Madisonville. Now in its 163rd year, the college offers a variety of programs leading to the associate of arts, associate of science, associate of applied science, bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees.
