While at UTK Spires was awarded the Volunteer Scholarship and the Ed Hawkins Memorial Scholarship. Spires spent two years conducting research for the Biochemistry Department. His senior honors thesis was entitled “Developing Experimental Tools to Study the Interactions Between Plasminogen Activator Inhibiter-1 and Vitronectin.”
Spires will begin medical school in August at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.
