Watercolor by Marie Spaeder Haas
Marie Spaeder Haas’ watercolor, “Butterfly Dance,” will make its premiere debut at the Five Points Arts Festival on July 27, 28 and 29.
Haas is an internationally collected watercolorist. Her recent work, “Dancing Warrior,” was selected to be part of the Tennessee Watercolor Society’s 33rd exhibition, and was also chosen to be part of the 2012 Tennessee Watercolor Society Traveling Show.
Haas has been painting and drawing from her earliest days growing up in Erie, Penn. After many years of teaching high school biology while doing her art “on the side,” she turned her attention to studio work in 1984.
She soon established herself as an avid watercolorist in northwest Pennsylvania where she ran her own Sycamore Gallery and conducted watercolor and drawing classes.
Haas currently works out of her studios in Ocoee and near the Gulf beaches of Bradenton, Fla., where she and her husband, Frank, reside. They also enjoy traveling and make annual journeys throughout North and Central America.
“Painting and drawing,” said the artist, “are my ways of interacting with my environment, whether that is a mountain peak in Alaska or an old barn in Tennessee, a fiddler or a concert violinist, a flower in my backyard or a dancer on the streets of Mexico.
“When I paint or draw something, I experience it in a way different from any other. It is my way of getting to know my surroundings.”
The Five Points Festival is sponsored this year by Don Ledford Automotive.
