Amanda Caroline Asbury Shell, 70, a resident of Cleveland went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 14, 2012.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She passed away peacefully at her home after a lengthy illness with dementia.

She worked for many years in the Cleveland area. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Faith Memorial Church until her illness prevented her attendance. She was born on May 24, 1942, in Bandy, Va., a daughter of the late George W. and Lucy M. Asbury.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son three years ago, Dewey C. Phillips; five brothers: George Asbury, Albert Asbury, James Asbury, Jesse Asbury, and Darrell Asbury; and two sisters: Virginia Quesenberry and Minnie Short.

She leaves here to cherish her memory her loving husband of 32 years and caregiver, Robert G. Shell; daughters: Barbara Satterfield of Cleveland, Carolyn (Ray) Bookout of Crandall, Ga., and Lisa M. Newton of Cleveland; two sons, James E. Phillips and Robert G. (Shannon) Shell II, both of Cleveland; daughter-in-law, Christine Phillips of Chatsworth, Ga.; sister, Mary J. Halton of Tazewell, Va.; four brothers: Clinton Asbury of Abingdon, Va., John H. Vance of Cedar Bluff, Va., Michael R. Vance of Amanota, Va., and Eddie Asbury of Cedar Bluff, Va.; eight grandchildren: Nicholas (Mira) Bookout of Dalton, Ga., Stacy Lankford of Pikeville, Stephen Satterfield of Clinton Township, Mich., Gary Guy II of Cleveland, Sheena Phillips, Dewey Phillips II and Larry Martin, all of Chatsworth, Ga., and Blake Shell of Cleveland; great-grandchildren: Krissy and Cody Lankford of Pikeville, Haliegh and Carter Bookout of Dalton, Ga., Joshua Jones, Kayden and Brinnleigh Brannon, Harmony Phillips, Nicholas Blue, and Allie Martin, all of Chatsworth, Ga.; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Cliff Hudson officiating.

Robert G. Shell II, Nicholas Bookout, Ray Bookout, Gary Guy II, Stephen Satterfield and James Phillips will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Amanda’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association-Mid South Chapter.
