Maupin wins Cleveland Country Club golf title

Cleveland Country Club wound up its 2012 Club Championship Sunday with Lee University head golf coach John Maupin walking away with the crown.

Maupin claimed the title with a 140 total with second place going to Bob Rice who shot a 143. Jimmy Balmer took third with a 149. Keith Barrett came in fourth with a 154, and Andy Williams rounded out the top five with a 156.

Andy Pennington and Brian Holloway both shot a 155 in the first flight gross scores. Pennington took the playoff and the top spot. Todd Burkhart notched third place with a 156.

Winning the net devision of the first flight was Ken Russell with a net 140. Joe Vaughn came in second with a net 142, and Harry Bridges took third with a 144.

Pudgie Payne was crowned the senior club champion when he shot a 149 to win the senior division. Gerald Burns grabbed second with a 153, and John Haile got third by shooting a 154.

Mike Zius earned a first place finish in the net division of the senior championship when he tallied a net 139. Bill Burch and Pat Jonstone both finished play with a 143 to round out the top three slots.
