A Walker Valley Road resident reported the theft of several turkeys.

According to Julie Rader, she noticed the birds missing Thursday.

The Blue Slate turkeys were kept in a barn on her property, according to a report filed by deputy Doug Boucher of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.

The barn was reportedly locked, but there were no signs of forced entry. Rader also reported a number of other items have turned up missing from her property during the past several months.

According to the report, the turkeys were valued at $50.

The property has been placed on extra patrol.

• Jewelry and other items were reportedly stolen during a burglary at a Blue Springs Road home.

Deputy Melanie Johnson filed a report for Judy Rogers who said someone had entered her home during the past few weeks and took a Jennings .22 caliber firearm, a lockbox containing personal information, a 2-carat diamond ring, necklaces and bracelets and other miscellaneous jewelry and medication.

Officials believed someone gained entry to the residence through a front window of the home.

Serial numbers were not immediately available for the report.

According to the report, the items were valued at $5,901.

Investigation is continuing.

• Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting Driver’s License Roadside Safety Checkpoints in Bradley County beginning next weekend.

The checkpoints will be set up in random locations in the county.

According to THP officials, checkpoints are an effective means of recognizing the dangers presented to the driving public by motorists who would violate the driver’s license laws of the state.

All scheduled checkpoints are contingent upon weather conditions and manpower availability.
