A brainstorming committee is planned soon to discuss some of these additional fundraising efforts.
This renewed emphasis on fundraising is why KAB’s quickly upcoming yard sale — newly revamped for this year — was the main topic of discussion at Wednesday’s meeting.
With Saturday, Sept. 15, set as the date, KAB — as well as potential shoppers — only has about seven weeks to receive donations, produce signage, organize the event and get the word out.
The location has been chosen. The yard sale is tentatively set to be held at American Uniform. This venue definitely is big enough to hold a large number of sale items, as well as allow for the sale of food.
Various food will be for sale, including sausage and biscuits, hot dogs, chips, and various beverages.
But more importantly, what KAB needs most right now is donations from the public. The group is looking for the following items: clean and gently worn, or new, clothing and shoes; large and small appliances, such as toasters, crock pots, grills, heaters, fans, and coffee pots; all types of furniture; lamps; TVs; computers and printers; fax machines; all manner of bedding; curtains; area rugs; towels of all sizes; towel racks; pots and pans; glassware; dishes; silverware; cooking utensils; table cloths; pictures; wall décor; figurines; books; movies; flower arrangements; holiday items; tools; fishing items; hunting gear; and vehicle parts, etc.
Donations will be accepted on the afternoons of Sept. 13 and 14 — just before the yard sale.
Door prizes will be given away on sale day.
Hours will start at 7 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.

— A second Hazardous Waste Collection event will be held this year on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Tri-State Exhibition Center. Cheryl Dunson, a member and previous board member of KAB, as well as the vice president of marketing and communication at Santek Environmental, talked with Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis and the two decided that it was important and necessary to hold a second such event. Not only has this event been held twice a year previously, the first event this year several months ago was a huge success. Cleveland Utilities will again insert flyers — roughly 34,000 — one each into the bills that will be sent out about a month before the event.
— KAB will hold its annual Membership Breakfast on Friday, Sept. 28. In addition to giving the annual report for the organization, KAB will announce its Business of the Year award at the same event. Businesses that receive the award have made a positive difference in the community, as well as also have met at least two of the following criteria: must be located in Cleveland and/or Bradley County; must be committed to protecting the environment; and/or must have a vision to recycle vacated property to enhance beautification.
— KOA on Pleasant Grove Road is scheduled to receive the next Neighborhood Beautification award from KAB.
— The LTRO Committee is to receive the KAB’s White Glove award on Thursday, Aug., 2, at 8:15 a.m. at the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce.
— KAB helped clean up six more area properties recently. Contact KAB to recommend additional area properties that need work.
