Linda Cross gave the devotion titled “The Most Beautiful Flower.”
President Fredricka Lawson conducted the business meeting.
Minutes of the June meeting were given by Elsie yates, secretary. Sue Taylor, treasurer, gave the financial report.
The group discussed the very successful District III Flower Show held at the Museum Center at Five Points.
Magnolia Garden Club participated in all phases of the show, entering 155 horticulture specimens and winning 75 blue ribbons. Awards were received in the Design and Exhibit divisions, also.
The program, “Hydrangeas, A Southern Favorite,” was presented by Darlene Williams, horticulturalist at Ooltewah Nursery and Landscape Co. She gave each member a booklet listing the various kinds of hydrangeas. She gave very helpful information on the selection and care of the varieties of hydrangeas: hydrangea arborescens, paniculata, oakleaf, macrophylla, mophead and macrophylla lacecap.
She also shared about her travels to England and to several nearby gardens.
New members Shelia Webb and Brenda Nakdiman were presented a potted hydrangea plant as they were welcomed into the club.
After the meeting, members visited the garden to see some of the hydrangeas discussed.
Horticulture examples brought by members were several hydrangeas, rudbeckis, libelia and phlox.
LuAnn Carey sowed a plastic terrarium she made to start cuttings of plants.
