SALT LAKE CITY — Todd Ghassabian of Ooltewah has received a bachelor of science in nursing from Western Governors University. On July 14 the online, nonprofit university held its semi-annual commencement ceremony in Salt Lake City, Utah, and celebrated the graduation of more than 3,200 graduates-WGU's largest class ever.

This year, Western Governors University celebrates its 15th anniversary. Incorporated in 1997, the university has grown to a national institution with more than 33,000 students and 16,000 graduates in just 15 years.

The university conferred 2,036 undergraduate degrees and 1,199 graduate degrees in four disciplines: business, information technology, teacher education, and health professions, including nursing. Graduates from 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada, as well as military personnel working overseas, were recognized during the ceremony.

WGU founding governor, The Honorable Michael O. Leavitt, (Utah governor, 1993-2003, and former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services) delivered the commencement keynote address.
