Charleen Ann Whitmire, 80, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 18, 1932, in Portland, Ore., to Lloyd and Florence Middleton, who preceded her in death.

She was a kind, loving person who found great joy in doing things for others. She always had a beautiful smile and a kind word for everyone. She attended North Cleveland Church of God where she worked in the nursery for many years. She also was a member of the Geneva Circle and the Unity Sunday School class. She graduated from the University of Oregon School of Nursing as an R.N. She worked as head nurse in several departments at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She also worked at the Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. She retired as the office nurse for Dr. James C. Lowe. After retiring, she worked as a Red Cross volunteer for several years at the hospital.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, William H. Whitmire of Cleveland; son, William H. Whitmire Jr. (Peggy); daughter, Julia A. Whitmire (Ron Jones); three grandchildren who all hold her in highest regards: William H. Whitmire III of Cleveland; Matthew C. Whitmire of Cookeville; and Joshua P. Jones of Cleveland; brother; Roger Middleton (Deanna) of Corbett, Ore.; sister, Joeleta Frewing of Canby, Ore.; sister-in-law, Jean Whitmire of Ocoee; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastors Mike Whitmire and Mitch Maloney officiating.

Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Jimmy Goddard, Steve Hyde, Rick Hyde, Roy Pierce, Jackie Carroll, and Doug Ingle serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Unity Sunday School class. The service will conclude with a white dove release ceremony.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
