The skit helped introduce students to the “Voyage to Greatness: Leaders for Life” initiative for Bradley County Schools. The staff is embracing this new way of thinking and put on a display of leadership for the students.
Through the use of a makeshift "time machine," famous leaders (teachers) came and visited students.
Among those “visiting” were: Susan B. Anthony, Gabby Douglas, Walt Disney, Sacagawea, Abe Lincoln, Mother Theresa, Tim Tebow and Eleanor Roosevelt. Each of these characters told their story and introduced the students to one of the eight Principles for Sailing, developed by supervisor for elementary education Sheena Newman.
These eight Principles are:
1. I am the captain of my ship.
2. I am ship shape.
3. I chart my course.
4. I set sail.
5. I am a good crewmate.
6. I lend a hand on deck.
7. I check my compass.
8. I persevere through storms.
