Keep America Beautiful is in quick need of donations, volunteers and tables for use in the organization’s inaugural yard sale — a key fundraiser — scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15.
The yard sale will be held at the Old American Uniform building near Ocoee Middle School.
Anyone wishing to make donations, or who would like to sign up as a KAB volunteer, is urged to contact Joanne Maskew, KAB executive director. Volunteer opportunities for the yard sale include collecting donated items, staffing the yard sale booths and working as a food server on the day of the event.
Volunteers are needed throughout the day for a three-day period, Sept. 13-15. Donations of items will be accepted between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, and Friday, Sept. 14. The yard sale will get under way on Saturday at 8 a.m. and will continue through 2 p.m.
Food and beverages will be available at the event.
KAB will use the proceeds for education programs throughout the year.
Such programs already planned for the upcoming fiscal year as part of KAB’s Great American Cleanup campaign include: the pre-K through third grades planting basil plants; the fourth and fifth grades will design “garbage art”; the middle school students will create rain-barrel art; and the high school students will write essays on ecologically related subjects such as acid rain’s harmful effects and how to reverse the damage, air pollution’s effects on human health, the effects of off-shore oil drilling, and the pros and cons of paper versus plastic grocery bags.
For more information on any of these topics or to volunteer time and items for the upcoming yard sale, call Maskew at 559-3307.
