Lady Crusaders split in VB tri-match

The Lady Crusaders of Cleveland Christian hosted SCAA members Tennesse Christian Preparatory School and Maryville Apostolic in volleyball action Thursday night.

In the evening opener, Apostolic took the early lead and carried through with a 25-19 win. The Crusaders bounced back to win game two 25-20 only to lose a deciding game three 20-25. Shayna Cole had 10 assists and 10 aces in the first match. Kelsey Farris followed suit with six kills and five aces. Acacia Thompson delivered four kills and six aces.

In the final match of the evening, Cleveland Christian and TCPS swapped games 25-22, 22-25 which lead to a third and final game. The game went back and forth, but the Lady Crusaders prevailed in the end. Thompson delivered seven aces and three kills. Farris had four aces and nine kills. Christina Mathis finished with three aces and two digs.

“My girls are struggling to find their identity. They continue to work hard and grow as a team, but we’ve got to learn to finish when we have the early lead," said coach John Mathis after the games. “It will come. This team is full of young talent and potential.”

The Lady Crusaders, 5-4 (3-3), travel to Collegedale Monday for more SCAA action.
