Roy Paul Elkins, 90, a lifelong resident of Bradley County, passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012.

He retired from Bowater and later worked at Walmart as a greeter.

He was a veteran of the United Sates Army having served during World War II. He was a member of Big Spring Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon for more than 55 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Maggie Elkins; parents, Ed and Bessie Elkins, Sr.; and two brothers: Ed Elkins Jr. and Dennis Elkins.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Dana Elkins; grandson, Eric Elkins; two great-granddaughters: Sydney Elkins and Skylar Elkins; sister and best friend, Bonnie Foster of Lewes, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Joe Brooks and Larry Puckett officiating.

Roy Willhoit, Gene Hysinger, David Robinson, Johnny Baker, Kevin Davenport and Tim Davenport will serve as pallbearers.

A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
