Herbert Hoover Beard, 83, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at his home.

He attended Westmore Church of God and was a long-time member of West Flint, Mich.

He retired from General Motors in Flint in 1983.

He was an avid golfer and a member of Chatata Valley Golf Course where he played almost daily. He has had three holes in one in recent years. He leaves a host of golf buddies and many, many friends. Golfing with his three sons was one of his favorite things to do.

He also loved to hunt and fish and was an avid tennis player, competing at the national level in the senior division.

He took great pride in his three boys and their families. He never missed a sports event involving one of his kids, grandkids, or great grandkids.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a skilled journeyman carpenter, who built his son’s doctor office and many more buildings in the area.

He was the son of the late Carl and Stella Aul. He was preceded in death by sister, Lois Miller; and brothers: Charles Beard, Carl Beard, AJ Beard.

He is survived by sisters: Betty Mays and Lou Aul; brother Carl Aul Jr.; sons: Ken and Judy Beard, Keith and Kitty Beard and Rick and Rhonda Beard; grandchildren: Brian and Janna Beard, Darleah and Blaine Terrell, Blake and Jessica Beard, Apryle and Wayne Griffith, Brant and Molly Beard, Jamie and Matthew Mlinarich and Lindsay Beard; great-grandchildren: Blakely Beard, Baylor Terrell, Blaire Terrell, Braylon Beard, Mitchell Hudson, Carter Hudson, Embry Beard, Corinna Beard, Sadie Beard, Carson Mlinarich, Olivia Mlinarich, and Fischer Mlinarich.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at the North Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Home with the Rev. Kelvin Page officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
