BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Freshman Clark Melton and the Young Harris College men’s golf team each captured their second titles of the 2012-13 season, winning the individual and team titles at the Georgia Mountain Trophy tournament Thursday.
The Mountain Lions shot rounds of 304 in the morning and 299 in the afternoon at the Old Union Golf Course to finish the 36-hole tournament with a score of 603. Young Harris finished 48 strokes ahead of second-place Truett-McConnell College.
Young Harris had three golfers named to the all-tournament team. Melton, a freshman from Cleveland, shot rounds of 75 and 70 to finish at 145 and earn medalist honors. The 70 marks his low round in his short collegiate career. Melton finished two strokes clear of teammate Adam Taylor, who finished with rounds of 73 and 74. Matthew Peeler finished in third place at 149 with scores of 75 and 74.
Parker Hulme finished in a tie for seventh place with a score of 163 (81-82) while Cameron Medina tied for 11th at 171 (90-81).
Young Harris returns to action Monday (Sept. 24) when the team travels to Toccoa, Ga., to take part in the Emmanuel Invitational at the Currahee Club.
