Sheets and feet flew as six teams raced to the finish in the Family Promise bed race Saturday.
Skeleton Crew, Wesley Memorial Student Ministry and Key Largo came in the winners in their races. Skeleton Crew also was named the most creative design for a bed. The team was started by members of the SkyRidge Medical Center Imaging Department.
The Skelton Crew dressed up as X-rays, while Wesley Memorial wore “Nice Hippo” T-shirts. Key Largo chose a jungle theme.
North Cleveland Baptist Church, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Family Promise Board members also participated.
The event raised $2,400 for the organization.
For the second year, Murmaid Mattress served as gold sponsor for the event.
Two of the winning teams won a free Buffalo Wild Wings party. Another won free Stevie B’s buffets and the remaining team was given a certificate for $25 off at Olive Garden.
The event also offered a junior bed race and a pillow-sack race. Addison Wilkins was the pillow sack race, while Gillian Sampson won the award for best-decorated pillow case.
Jaynae Wright was the fastest in the junior bed race for children in the 9-12 age group. In the 6-8 age group, Blaze Nelson was the fastest.
“I don’t know what I enjoyed more, seeing the faces of the kids in the sack race or seeing the faces of the adults in the bed race,” Bed Race coordinator Jean Straussberger said.
Face painting and craft vendors were also present for participants to enjoy in between races. Door prize chances and hot dogs were available for sale.
