ATLANTA, Ga. — Camil Martinez and Irene Ojukwu posted double-double performances and Lauren Williams had one of her best outings of the season in helping lead the Lee volleyball team to an impressive 3-1 (26-24, 16-25, 25-20, 25-23) victory over host Emory University on Tuesday evening.
The Lady Flames whipped an Eagle team that had won 12 of their last 13 matches since losing to Lee on Sept. 3 in Walker Arena. Lee, 13-6 and ranked sixth in the latest NAIA poll, turned away several comeback attempts by Emory, 16-3 and ranked No. 6 in the NCAA D-3 poll.
Martinez delivered 41 assists and also went to the back line for 12 digs. She added four blocks to her sparkling total. Ojukwu recorded 15 kills to go along with 14 digs and a pair of blocks. Williams was a standout at the net with eight kills and an eye-catching eight blocks.
The threesome got plenty of help in a total team win. Paula Martins got off to a quick start and finished with 15 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Freshman Nicole Sumida kicked in with nine kills and three blocks. Libby Peigen was the dig leader with 16 and Sarah Davis chipped in with eight digs.
Emory’s Dana Holt enjoyed an excellent effort for the Eagles. She registered 41 assists and 16 digs. Leah Jacobs helped Emory stay close with 13 kills, while Alex Duhl added 12 kills and six blocks. Cami Silverman also had 12 kills.
