He was the son of the late Aubie and Mary Ross.
He grew up in Cleveland and after moving away for some time, he and his wife, Jean, spent the past 40 years as Cleveland residents.
He was of the Baptist faith and an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as a volunteer on the greeting team.
He was a faithful employee of BellSouth Telephone Company for 35 years here in Cleveland. He was a member of the Black Fox Ruritan Club, American Red Cross, the Public Service Unit with the Cleveland Police Department, and a member of the Outpost Harry Survivors, where he was awarded the Silver Star. He also volunteered at Bradley Memorial Hospital helping serve and care for patients.
In addition to his tremendous volunteer work, he was known for his love of golf. He was an avid golfer who frequently played every course in Bradley County, loving the men he played with at each one. However, he had a special place in his heart for his friends at Chatata Valley for how they helped care for him.
Above all the things he is known for, he will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Thelma Sherlin, Francis Sloan, and Laura Clemmons; and one brother: Lester Ross.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 58 years, Jean Ross; three daughters: Karen Bruce ( John) of Knoxville; Betsy Sims (Dr. Stephen Sims) of Chattanooga; Melissa Thomas of Conway, Ark.; two sisters: Joyce Goggins and Margaret Grant, both of Ringgold, Ga.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 15 nieces and nephews.
