“We have won lots of runner ups, but this is the first in school history,” coach Aubrey Reagan said.
The Lady Mustangs (17-1 overall) went 7-0 for the day and won all matches in two straight games. In the Final Four teams, Ooltewah beat Soddy-Daisy in three games and WVHS beat Cleveland in two games.
Our district is one of the hardest districts in the state and I think this proves that even with our JV teams,” Reagan said, “Winning the JV tournament was a goal the girls set for themselves within the first week of practice this summer. I am glad that we accomplished our goal. It was a 10 girl effort and I am very proud of how hard the girls worked not only Saturday but all season long.”
In pool play, The Lady Mustangs out paced Soddy-Daisy 25-13 and 25-19 before taking care of Girls Preparatory School 25-15 and 25-23. Boyd Buchanan fell by scores of 25-19 and 25-12. In tournament play, The Lady Mustangs downed Grace Baptist 25-7 and 25-3 then took care of East Hamilton 25-18 and 25-17. Walker Valley dumped Cleveland 25-19 and 25-13 in the semifinals and defeated Ooltewah 25-23 and 25-14 to win the championship.
Ashlyn Flock served up eight aces, had 74 assists, 34 kills and 31 digs for the Lady Mustangs and Alex Rominger booked two aces, two assists, three kills and 87 digs. Nikki Prugh recorded four aces, 27 kills and 39 digs while Kaitlin Scoggins earned eight aces, two kills and 51 digs. Sara Wilson scored thee aces a kill and 28 digs while Madison Russo booked one assist, four blocks, 17 kills and 11 digs. Abbi Mason added a block, 19 kills and 6 digs while Alexan Crittenden had two aces, three assists, two kills and digs. Kateland West finished the tournament with six assists, nine kills and digs while Mikayla Lumpkin had one assist, one block, 14 kills and three digs.
