Polk County 4-Hers recently competed in the Eastern Region 4-H judging team competition at the Knoxville fair. Polk had two Lifeskills teams. Team A took third place with team members Hannah Smith, Hannah Trew and Rachel Smith. Team B members were Alli Dill, Jonathan Pippenger, April Guinn, and Alexis Bramlett. Several individual honors were awarded. In high scoring overall Hannah Trew placed fifth; with Hannah Smith, Jonathan Pippenger and Rachel Smith tied at sixth place. The contestants were tested on their knowledge of food safety, recycling, toys for young children and making change. The Consumer Decision Making team members were Abigail Firestone, Katie Thompson and Chance Firestone. In this contest senior high 4-Hers make and compare decisions based on fact collection. This year the categories were toys, laundry detergent, movie rentals and breakfast cereals.
