Charleston Elementary recently celebrated the Accelerated Reader program with Walker Valley High School's football team, cheerleaders, and drumline.

"The team enjoyed the opportunity to work with young boys and be an example to them. They would love the chance to come back and read with the kids and tutor them in math and reading," head football Coach Glen Ryan said.

Colby Burris, assistant band director, talked with the kids about staying in school and getting involved. The Senior cheerleaders enjoyed working with young girls and being a role model to them. "I am so glad the students at Charleston got the opportunity to work with Walker Valley's high school kids and see the importance of staying in school and being involved. [It was also a chance] to see all the different avenues of opportunity that are offered to students,” said Regina Smith, reading support specialist.

Jodie Grannan, Charleston's principal, said, "To encourage students to meet and exceed Accelerated Reader goals, activities are scheduled to encourage reading. Today students were engaged and working together through minicamps. We are so thankful that we partnered with Walker Valley and we look forward to continuing our partnership!"
