She was born in McMinn County to the late Charlie and Treece Gibson Kennedy. She was originally from Meigs County but lived most of her life in the Idlewild community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Vaughn; a son, Jason; her stepmother, Willie Mae Kennedy, and brothers, Charles Kennedy and Dale Kennedy.
She was a member of Idlewild Baptist Church, the YMCA, and Nocatula Civitan Club.
Survivors include her husband, Charles “Buster” Maddox, of Athens; sons, David Vaughn of Athens and Rickey Vaughn of Cleveland; a daughter, Connie Bishop of Athens; stepsons, Butch Maddox and Randy Maddox, both of Calhoun; stepdaughter, Anita Jo Norton of Decatur; sister and best friend, Loretta Bivens of Etowah; three grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; a great-grandson; stepgreat-grandchildren; several sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. today, Oct. 8, 2012, in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens with Rev. Bob Thomas officiating.
Family and friends will gather at Idlewild Cemetery Tuesday for an 11 a.m. graveside service.
Active pallbearers will be grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
