CALHOUN — BECU member Kay Wood and her favorite non-profit program, the Family Violence Program (part of the Family Resource Agency), have won $1,000 from BECU through the Pay It Forward program.

BECU has asked its members to nominate their favorite non-profit helping people in the counties eligible for BECU membership: Bradley, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, and Polk. The Family Violence Program is the third winner of 2012.

The program provides various services to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. These services include a 24/7 hot line, crisis counseling, court advocacy, the Harbor House (a safehouse for women and their children who are escaping abuse), and more.

Wood noted t the funds for this program are greatly needed. “Without this vital community resource, where would these women go?” wrote Ms. Wood. “Whom would these women turn to? Worse yet, what would become of them?”

To make your own donation to this important program, contact the Family Resource Agency at 479-9339 or mail to FRA, 3680 Michigan Ave. Road N.E, Cleveland, TN 37323.

Any member of BECU can nominate their favorite non-profit for a $1,000 Pay It Forward prize. Two more prizes will be given out in 2012. The deadline to be considered for the fourth and fifth prizes is November 30th.

BECU began the Pay It Forward program in 2010 as a way to give back to the community it serves.

Since the program’s inception, BECU has given $11,000 to various charities making a difference in our community. For more information, visit www.bowaterecu.org and look under the “News & Info” tab.
