The group will perform “The Dining Room” by A.R. Gurney in the theater of the George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Building on the Cleveland State Community College campus. Shows are scheduled for Oct. 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 21 at 3 p.m.
“The Dining Room” is a two-act play filled with experiences that many people can relate to when they think of a dining room. The scenes are filled with funny moments like a children’s birthday party as well as more serious moments like a discussion between a father and son about the father’s funeral preparations. Each member of the six-actor cast plays multiple roles throughout the play as they bring the families’ stories to life.
“With the ‘The Dining Room,’ people should expect to laugh, cry and maybe even travel down memory lane,” said Anna Kalfayan, an actress in the play and secretary of StageWorks of Cleveland.
StageWorks of Cleveland started earlier this year to bring community theater back to Cleveland after the town’s last community theater group, the Ocoee Players, disbanded in 2010. The founders of StageWorks of Cleveland felt it was important for local residents to again have a place to exercise their creativity through theater.
The hope was that, in the process, the group would also unite the community with a shared appreciation of the arts.
“We started to provide an outlet for those who aren’t affiliated with local high schools and colleges to get involved with the arts,” said Michael Myers, president of StageWorks of Cleveland.

Tickets are $15 for adults online or at the door, and student tickets are available for $10 at the door with a valid student I.D. Group pricing is also available. The play is recommended for ages 13 and older.
