He was a member of John’s Memorial Baptist Church of Ooltewah.
He was employed for more than 31 years with the state of Tennessee Highway Department, and was a farmer for many years. He loved to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, O.D. “Coon” Denton and Fannie McAlister Denton; brothers: Lake, Charlie, Eurb, Oscar, Robert, Fred Arthur, Oley, Ollie, and Walter; and sisters: Louise, May Jenkins, and Ollie Pendergrass.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruby Morrison Denton; children: Norma Jean (Wendell) Waters of Cleveland, Ricky Allen (Terisa) Denton of Charleston, Fay Belinda (Dwayne) McCaskill of Athens, Donna May Miller of Charleston and Matthew James Denton of Charleston; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Union Grove Church of God of Prophecy in Charleston with the Rev. Randy Cooley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bradley/Cleveland Cancer Society in James V. Denton’s memory.
