The annual Block Party is celebrating 25 years Oct. 31, beginning at 5 p.m., and MainStreet Cleveland officials are working to get everything arranged for this silver anniversary.

There will be great entertainment, tons of candy on Mars Chocolate’s Treat Street, and creative costumes at the Mars Chocolate Costume Contest, beginning at 6 p.m.

Entertainment begins at 5 p.m. on the stage at the Courthouse Plaza with dancers from Chilhowee Dance and Performing Arts Center. Music begins at 5:30 with performances by two talented and very popular local groups — Second Hand Smoke and The Dexter Thomas Band.

Headline entertainment for the evening is Drivin’ N Cryin’, one of the South’s hottest jam bands.

Atlanta-based Drivin’ N Cryin’ — best known for its 1991 hit “Fly Me Courageous” — takes the main stage beginning at 8:15 p.m. thanks to a sponsorship from Check Into Cash.

Drivin’ N Cryin’ is a band known for putting on an incredible live show that features rock, blues and folk, much in the tradition of groups like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and the Dave Matthews Band. Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ has toured extensively over the last 25 years and even made history by becoming the only band to share a stage with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sonic Youth and Neil Young in the same 12-month period.

In 2011, the Georgia General Assembly honored the band with a resolution for their contribution to popular music.

At the Cleveland Downtown Block Party, kids love the air toys along Broad Street, and visitors can show off their talents on the karaoke stage at the Post Office “Fun Stage” beginning at 7 p.m.

School, churches and local businesses complete the festival atmosphere as they fill the vendor booths around the Courthouse Square. There are plenty of activities at the booths including face painting, candy, commemorative photos, great food and much more.

Goblins and ghouls will be able to enjoy all types of foods including barbecue ribs, grilled chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs, funnel cakes, Mexican and Greek cuisine and much more.
