The Lake Forest Bruin eighth-grade basketball team traveled to Dalton, Ga., Monday night and returned home with their first loss of the season, 45-27.
The Cougars took advantage of poor ball handling by the Bruins in posting the victory. Lake Forest committed 23 turnovers in the contest and hit only 27 percent of their shots. The Cougars expanded their 24-15 halftime lead by hitting four long-range 3s in the second half to end any comeback hopes for the Bruins.
John Brown paced the Bruin attack, posting six points with Jake Tolleson and Ty Beavers each adding four points. Tolleson pulled down a team high six rebounds in the losing effort.
“You can’t turn the ball over as much we did and expect to win. Good teams are going to convert those extra opportunities,” said coach Andrew Nipper.
The seventh- and eighth-grade Bruins return to the hardwood tonight, hosting the Bobcats from Chilhowee Middle School.
