Since its beginnings, The Santa Project has used story to reach both children and adults with safety programs for children. Through years of working with organizations such as National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Association of Missing and Exploited Children’s Organizations, Pete Vanderpool has witnessed time and again the power of story to communicate the passion of those who work on behalf of children as well as the healing that can result from personal stories. Over these years, he has laughed and cried with those who have experienced the loss of a child.
“The Story Gatherer” is the result of years of gathering stories from various sources — those involving children, but also those from church, community service organizations and people from all walks of life. He has now released his book, “Equipped to Bless: Finding Relevance in the Stories of Your Life,” a collaboration with local writer Wendy C. Brown. The Santa Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, will benefit from the sale of each book through a tithe of the profits, helping Vanderpool to continue with the vitally important safety messages he delivers.
In a beautifully touching foreword to the book, storyteller Lyn Ford says in part, “Equipped to Bless: Finding Relevance in the Stories of Your Life” is a work of art that can make the heart feel as if it is growing larger and stronger. We recognize and empathize with narratives from that miracle called life, we find, or rediscover, the heart of our own stories and we feel a desire to share them”.
Stories have the power to paint a picture of our individual relevance, to connect us with others and allow us to experience blessing as we bless others. This book guides you through discovery of the ways in which you are uniquely equipped to bless others. You will not only read others’ stories, but also find yourself relating them to your own personal experiences. Learn how to turn these life episodes into benefits for others who pass through your life.
To assist Vanderpool in the promotion of this book, local stores have agreed to hold book-signing days where the book can be purchased, and people can meet and visit with Vanderpool. Signing will be at Sara’s Hallmark Shop on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition to the book, Vanderpool is available for keynote speeches and workshops for churches, civic organizations, industry or any group interested in learning how to unlock the power of the stories of their lives. These interactive talks and workshops explore in depth the ideas presented in the core message of “Equipped to Bless” which include our uniqueness, our connectedness, and the importance of the stories of our individual lives.
