The sixth-grade Lady Colts basketball team picked up an impressive 39-6 victory over the Lake Forest Lady Bruins in early season basketball action.
The post players helped contribute most of the points for the Lady Colts. OMS head coach Cayci Smith said Hannah Lombard had a great game, leading the team with 16 points and numerous rebounds.
“Hannah did a great job tonight rebounding and putting the ball in the basket,” said Smith.
Teammates Madison Rue and Macy Nipper also helped out by crashing the boards and grabbing rebounds. Rue had six points and Nipper added four. Abbey Davis had five points, Miraina Patel scored four while Mary Humphries and Sarah Knipp contributed two points apiece.
Lady Colts 23, ACMS 11
The Lady Colts basketball also defeated Athens City Middle School 23-11.
“The Lady Colts were off to a slow start, but we really stepped it up in the second half. We made some adjustments on offense and defense during halftime and late in the third quarter.The girls responded well and started executing the plays, giving us a 7-point lead at the end of the third quarter,” said coach Josh Evans.
Free throws helped the Lady Colts win this game. They hit 5 of 8 from the line.
“This is an area we have been struggling with all season long so it is nice to see that percentage go up,” said coach Smith.
The Lady Colts offense was led by Rue with nine points, Davis trailed with five points, Macy Nipper followed with four, Sarah Knipp had three and Anna Roberts had 2.
OMS takes to the court again today at 4:30 p.m. against Copper Basin.
