The Rev. Carl R. Hawkins, 71, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, in a Chattanooga hospital.

He was a minister with The Church of God of Prophecy for over 47 years, pastoring churches in several states, including Indiana, West Virginia, Ohio, Texas, North Carolina. He was appointed district overseer in many of these states. At one time, he was appointed by the church as national evangelist. “His work is done and now he will be in Heaven.”

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary E. Hawkins;and a grandson, Joshua James Hawkins.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sylvia Hawkins; his father, Carl V. Hawkins of Elkhart, Ind.; his daughters: Martina June Clark and her husband, Ricky, and Terrie Sue Gunter and her husband, Jeffrey, all of Cleveland; his sons: James Carl Hawkins and his wife, Carol, of Indianapolis, and Michael Wayne Hawkins and his wife, Ioanna, of Melbourne, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann Hostetter of Elkhart, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy with Bishop Ron Hamm officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jeffrey Gunter Jr., Carl G. Hawkins, Mark Knight, James Micah Hawkins, Tanner Clark, Grant Embry and Tim Soeder serving as casket bearers.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday, and today from 5 until 8 p.m. at the North Ocoee Street Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes.
