Some $1,605 has been added this week to the William Hall Rodgers Christmas Basket Fund.

@:This brings the total to $4,232 of the $28,000 needed to fill 980 baskets.

The basket fund has been a tradition in the community since the 1920s. Each year needy families in the community receive boxes of food staples to help bring cheer during the holiday season.

The basket fund, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is run entirely by volunteers with funds supplied by individuals and groups from within the community. All of the funds collected are used for the boxes.

Among those donating this week are Jerry and Joyce Elrod, $100; Harvey and Barbara Tillery, $75; Donald and Lila Lorton, $100; CRM Inc., $300; Simpson Construction, $500; in honor of my three friends, $30; Bill and Cynthia Veach, $100; anonymous, $100; a group of friends, $50; Max and Elizabeth Morris, $50; and Katherine and Roy Kesley, $200.

Donations to the William Hall Rodgers Christmas Basket Fund may be sent to First Tennessee Bank, P.O. Box 4880, Cleveland TN 37320-4880 or dropped off at First Tennessee Bank, 3870 Keith St.
