Mitchell Keith Shoemaker, 64, a lifelong resident of Calhoun, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, in an Athens hospital.

He was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church.

He was the president of his junior and senior class at Calhoun High School and was an accomplished player of basketball and baseball. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his fathers: Ellis Ray Shoemaker Jr., and Walter Green.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Lynn Cope Shoemaker of Calhoun; mother, Helen Bolen Green of Calhoun; two children: Brian Keith Shoemaker and wife, Amy, and Mitchell Todd Shoemaker and wife, Tina, all of Cleveland; four grandchildren: Jack and Alex Shoemaker and Ashley and Clay Shoemaker; one brother, Craig Green and wife, Sharon Green; sister: Kay Shoemaker Burns and husband, Charlie Burns, all of Cleveland; stepmother, Shirley Shoemaker; uncle and aunt, Charles and Carolyn Bolen; aunt, Doris Johnson; and several very special cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Cheathem officiating.

Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Pallbearers will be Johnny Renner, Royce McBride, Gary Barham, Jerry Dunn, Ronnie Pruitt, Lynn Gober and Mark Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Long, Wes Shamblin, Bill Long, Willie Jenkins, David Jenkins and the Rev. Ron Sorah.

His family will receive friends from 4 to 7p.m. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
