Ahlberg is the pharmacy manager at the newly opened Fresh n’ Low store off Spring Place Road.
A native of East Tennessee, Ahlberg is a graduate of Rhea County High School. He graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in biology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a doctor of pharmacy from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, Memphis. Ahlberg has specialized training in compounding drugs at the Professional Compounding Center of America in Houston, Texas.
He met his wife, Tiffany, while in college. Since she was a native of Cleveland, they moved here in 2002. The couple have two children, Kara, 4; and Braden, 6.
Ahlberg worked as a community pharmacist for about 10 years. He joined the Cooke‘s Food Store and Pharmacy team about a month ago.
Ahlberg has always had an “interest in the health sciences. The more I learned the more I liked the chemistry side. I find being a pharmacist very interesting. It is always changing. There are constantly new drugs and therapies. You are always learning new things, but I also get to spend time with the patients.”
He noted, “It is not just the science. It is the people.”
Ahlberg said, “it is more about the patient than the medication. You focus on the patients and their medical conditions versus just the medications.
“You get to know the people, interact with them, and answer any questions on medications and diseases,” he said.
The new grocery store pharmacy offers retail pharmaceuticals as well as custom medications.
Ahlberg noted the pharmacy has a program for its Fresh Rewards card holders that provides free antibiotics, with a valid prescription, for up to a 14-day supply of certain antibiotics. He urged customers to stop by and get more information on the program.
The Fresh n’ Low Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They also have a drive-through for the convenience of their customers.
