Charles Leslie Pounders, 73, of Riceville, passed away unexpectedly, Friday morning, Dec. 7, 2012.

He was a loving husband, father and pawpaw.

A native of Steens, Miss., he was a son of the late Aaron and Margaretta Coleman Pounders. He was a member of the Eastanallee Baptist Church, and the Gideon International. He was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga.

He was in the insurance business for 36 years until his retirement. He was a former Nationwide and Shelter Insurance agent, then started the Madison Insurance Center where he represented several companies until 2008, when he associated with the Omega Insurance Co.

After retiring from the insurance business he purchased Tropical Tan.

He served his country in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joyce Leamon Pounders, of Riceville; one daughter, Pam McClanahan of Athens; two sons and daughters-in-law: Wade and Kay McClanahan of Cleveland, and Chuck and Terrie Pounders of Memphis; one granddaughter, Megan McClanahan; five grandsons: Billy McClanahan and his wife, Amber, Greysen Pounders, Chase Martin, Jaksen Pounders and Lawson Brown; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Peggy and Dean West of Columbus, Miss., Mickie and Jerry Singleton and Pat and Jerry Wilborn, all of Jackson, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, in the chapel of Smith Funeral & Cremation Services of Athens with the Rev. Oran Creasman and Dr. Tony Crisp officiating.

Interment will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Eastanallee Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Billy McClanahan, Maynard Wilson, Gerald Vibbert, Ronnie Gann, Wiley Richardson and Michael McKeehan, as well as four grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Men’s Sunday school class at Eastanallee Baptist Church.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Eastanallee Baptist Church Building Fund, 482 CR 725, Riceville TN 37370.
