The Ocoee Middle School sixth-grade Colts came out on the short end in their final regular season home game Monday evening.

Athens Middle brought its seventh-grade squad to battle the young Colts and ended up with a 53-40 victory.

“We never backed up,” declared Colt coach Ed Coates. “Our outmanned ponies showed a lot of heart in going toe-to-toe with the taller team from Athens.”

Tyler Ferguson’s “relentless play inside” garnered him 14 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double for the home team.

Patton Ford followed closely with 13 points, while Isaiah Johnson helped out with 10 points and a half dozen steals.

Next on tap for the young Colts will be to host the sixth-grade Christmas Tournament. The OMS squad will take on St. Jude of Chattanooga this evening at 7 p.m.
