Carolyn “Big Mama” Capehart, 95, of Birchwood passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, in a Cleveland health care facility.

A resident of Birchwood since 1959, she was formerly from East Chattanooga. She was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church in Birchwood. She was involved in Birchwood Senior Neighbors and enjoyed needlepoint and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester “Coffee” Capehart; and her parents, William Sutton and Gussie Sutton Cunningham.

Survivors include her three children: Charlotte Bischoff and husband, Jeff, of Birchwood, Jim Capehart of Cleveland, and Lewis Capehart and wife, Bobbie, of Cleveland; and six grandchildren: David Capehart and wife, Cindy, of Chattanooga, Janet Bischoff of Birchwood, Maryanita Capehart of Trenton, Ga., Aleasha Verhaag of Virginia Beach, Va., Vann Bischoff and wife, Amanda, of Frisco, Texas, and Tyson Capehart of Cleveland.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor David Delmotte and Pastor Gary Powell officiating.

Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in East Chattanooga. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

Her family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
