Bill Hopkins, 68, a resident of Delano, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 30, 2012, at the family residence.
He was the son of the late Vivian Byerly Hopkins and William H. Hopkins. His sister, Shirley Jean Showalter also preceded him in death.
He was veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a truck driver most of his life and a retired member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed working on his farm, mowing his lawn and playing and raising his dogs.
He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Delano.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hopkins of Delano; his stepson, Charles A. “Chuck” Hughes Jr. and his wife, Elena, of Cleveland; his granddaughters: Elena, Elizabeth and Anna Hughes of Cleveland; his brothers: G.W. Hopkins and his wife, Bonnie, and Delaney Hopkins and his wife, Brenda, all of Harrisonburg, Va.; his niece, Suzanne Bowman; and his brother-in-law, Garland “Peach” Showalter, all of Harrisonburg.
The Remembrance of Life Memorial service will be held Wednesday evening, Jan. 2, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. from Friendship Baptist Church in Delano with the Rev. Robby Hatcher officiating.
Interment will be held in Virginia at a later time.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, Gideon Bibles be donated or memorials be made to the Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Friendship Baptist Church in Delano.
The North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes has charge of arrangements.
