Ricky Dean Smith, 22, was charged with aggravated child abuse after investigators learned his son had been taken to T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital last week.
According to investigator’s reports to Bob Gault, media relations coordinator for BCSO, the child had suffered serious injuries Wednesday “while the infant was allegedly being cared for by his father.”
After being notified by DCS officials, detectives went Friday to the Smith home on Francisco Road, near Georgetown, to begin an investigation.
According to Gault, medical personnel at T.C. Thompson initially alerted DCS officials of their findings regarding the child’s injuries.
Smith was arrested and is being held in the county jail without bond pending a hearing in Bradley County General Sessions Court Jan. 15.
