The smooth bluegrass band Barefoot Nellie and Co. will headline the Cowboy Gospel Jubilee this Friday evening at 7.

“Barefoot Nellie and Co. is absolutely one of the best bluegrass bands around,” said Will Nichols, producer of the free show. “Their unique blend of traditional and progressive bluegrass music is characterized by instrumental prowess and vocal finesse. Their show is not just seen and heard ... but felt.”

The five-person bluegrass band from Chattanooga includes Tim Smith on guitar, Josh Hixson on mandolin, August Bruce on fiddle, Jimmy Redden on banjo, and Eric Bruce playing bass.

All of the members contribute vocally with Smith, Hixson and Bruce most often taking the lead. Bruce’s honey-sweet female voice is in perfect contrast to the powerfully masculine leads of Smith and Hixson.

The Cowboy Gospel Jubilee is held at the Cleveland Cowboy Church in the Dockery Heights community between Blue Springs and Blackburn Roads. It features both gospel and moral secular music performed in a variety of genres.

Also appearing on the Jubilee will be Southern gospel singer Amy McAlister, singer-songwriter Elmer Bramlett, and singer-songwriter Danny O’Boyle, as well as the Cowboy Church Band and Chorale. Nichols is host and announcer.
