The Rev. William D. Walker, 86, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at the family residence.
He was a minister in the Church of God, having started preaching when he was 16 years old and being ordained in 1955. He pastored churches in Idaho, North Carolina and Virginia. In Norfolk, Va., and here in Cleveland, he volunteered as a crisis counselor with the juvenile court system and was a member of Westmore Church of God.
He was the son of the late Ernest and Helen Walker. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise Walker; his sons: David Walker and his wife, Ruth, of Cleveland, William M. “Mike” Walker and his wife, Gwen, of Concord, N.C., and Jonathan D. Walker of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren: Dava Peoples of Hoover, Ala., Aleta Chase of Cleveland, Michael Walker of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Christopher Walker of Stamford, Conn., and Ami Walker of Cleveland; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ocie Walker Spencer of Danville, Va.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 7 p.m. today, Jan. 18, 2013, at Westmore Church of God, Cleveland, with the Revs. William Mike Walker and Wendell Smith officiating.
Interment will be held at noon Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jay Peoples, Nathan Spencer, Michael Walker, Bart Chase, Jim Gibson and Kelly Chattin serving as casket bearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 this evening at the church.
