Clevelander Israel Soto, Victoria Soto’s uncle, said in a previous interview that his niece was his hero for trying to save her students’ lives.
According to The Associated Press, HoneySpot Elementary School in Stratford, Conn., will be renamed after Victoria. She was an alumna of the Stratford school system, having graduated from Stratford High School. According to reports, the name change was approved by Stratford officials Monday night.
Victoria Soto also had grandparents, an aunt and two cousins living in Cleveland.
A month after the incident, the family is trying to return to some sense of normalcy.
According to Annette Smith of Life Care Centers of America, where Israel Soto works, the family does not wish to make further comments on the event at this time.
Soon after the tragedy, Life Care Centers of Cleveland officials met with Israel Soto and his wife, Leonor, for a time of prayer.
After the small gathering the couple, along with other family members from Cleveland, left to be with family on Connecticut.
Israel has said he was thankful for the support of his workplace during such a difficult time.
According to the wire service report, a petition is also circulating in Stratford, Conn., to have a street renamed in Victoria Soto’s honor.
