Even though the weather had postponed the match up between Cleveland High and Soddy Daisy, the Lady Raiders showed no snow day rust as they easily defeated the Lady Trojans.

The home team outscored the visitors by 26 points, for a 54-28 Saturday night win at the Raider Dome.

Practically the whole Lady Raiders team contibuted to the overall score, with nine girls registering points throughout the game.

“Everybody got to play tonight and played some really good minutes,” Cleveland head coach Mindy Kiser said of the team effort.

While the Lady Trojans were able to get on the board first, it was the Lady Raiders who would come out on top 16-8 to end the first period.

During the second period the Cleveland girls added 15 points to their score. The Lady Raiders defense allowed Soddy Daisy only one basket by the end of the half.

“I saw some good things from people, getting in good rebounding position and being strong with the basketball. Overall, I just thought it was a good effort,” Kiser commented.

Nora Berry was able to net two 3-pointers during the second period and Sarah Crump added to the board with a 3-pointer of her own.

The Lady Raiders came into the third period with a solid 31-10 lead over the Lady Trojans. The offensive efforts by Berry, Graicyn Walkup, Hallea McClendon, Crump, Atarah Abdullah-Muhammad and Bre Ware ended the period 49-15 over Soddy Daisy.

“We shot really well from the field and its not because we were on fire, it’s because we took good shots and made those open looks,” Kiser stated.

The Lady Trojans were only able to add another 13 points to the board and unable to rally as the Lady Raider were able to end the game on top 54-28.

“I thought we executed well and just played hard,” Kiser said after the win.

Point leaders for the Lady Raiders were Berry with 16 points and A. Abdullah-Muhammad with 12 points. Berry registered two 3-pointers and Crump and Walkup each had a 3-pointer of their own.

Cleveland was 10-for-22 at the charity line, and while not entirely pleased with the percentage, Kiser admitted that half the battle is just getting to the free throw line.

The Lady Raiders will have a short turn around time, with only one day available to practice before they head to play the Lady Owls in Ooltewah Tuesday night.
