KAB makes plans for 2013 fundraisers

Keep America Beautiful is starting to firm up plans for various fundraisers for 2013.

At the usual price of $5 a ticket, KAB is planning on two pancake breakfast fundraisers this year.

The first is planned at Applebee’s, which the board tentatively approved for April 6. The time is usually the same each year — 7 to 10 a.m.

KAB volunteers will serve as greeters and servers, as they have at previous pancake breakfast fundraisers. The organization also will provide the milk, juice and sugar-free syrup.

A second pancake fundraiser is currently being planned at Aubrey’s.

“We’re planning on doing something a little different,” said Joanne Maskew, executive director at KAB. KAB volunteers will again help as greeters, servers, cleanup crew and table re-stockers. Aubrey’s, Maskew said, will provide the food at no cost.

But KAB won’t be able to have its second pancake breakfast fundraiser this year until at least September and possibly not until October or November.

In addition, KAB is currently talking about selling business-card-sized advertisements — possibly on both the front and the back — on the 11-by-17-inch placemats that will be used at both pancake breakfasts.

With the success of its first yard sale last year, KAB is again planning a yard sale for 2013. The date currently set for this event is Sept. 21. One planning possibility discussed included the use of storage rental units, so donations for the yard sale could be stored over a period of months, rather than just days.

Parkview Baptist Church will provide refreshments and inflatable/blowup toys at the yard sale. Volunteers are being sought from such organizations as Cleveland State Community College, Lee University, and the Community Service & Juvenile department.

A facility on Tasso Road is in the process of being secured by Habitat for Humanity, Maskew said, as a possible location for the yard sale.

Possible other fundraisers discussed were the sale of Krispy Kreme Donuts; the sale of pecans during the fall, before the holidays; and donations from blue jean days at local businesses.
