Minnie Ruth Ownby, 85, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 9, 2013, at her residence.

She was born on May 23, 1927, a daughter of the late Shurden and Jonnie Collins.

She had made Cleveland her home for the past several years.

She worked for several years for the Buster Brown Company and then later retired from the BiLo stores of Chattanooga. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed attending her church.

When she was able, she was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed watching her favorite player Chipper Jones.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husbands: Hubert H. Ownby and Bill Henegar; one son, Terry D. Ownby; one sister, Ida Jean Nethkin; and four brothers: Ellis Collins, James Hoyt Collins, Billy Don Collins and Chester Collins.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory two sons and daughters-in-law: Don and Sharon Ownby and Tracy and Teena Ownby; eight grandchildren: Nikki Ownby, Chad Ownby, John Taylor, Jody Woody, Jami Cofer, Dee Dempsey, Erica Thomas and Jamie Beckler; several great-grandchildren; and several other extended family members and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Philippi Baptist Church, 2325 Old Harrison Pike NW, Cleveland, TN with Dr. Sammy Hooker officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service Tuesday.

A private family interment will be held Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2012, at Lakewood Memory Gardens East in Chattanooga where she will be laid to rest by her husband, Hurbert Ownby.
