Jerry Lamar Manis, 67, of Dalton, Ga., departed this life Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, in Panama City, Fla.

He was born April 22, 1945, in Dalton, a son of the late Elbert “Red” and Anna Ruth Manis.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired as the director of Whitfield County Parks and Recreation after 21 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Manis, of Dalton; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Esmeralda Manis of Rocky Face, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Shara and Craig Cook of Tunnel Hill, Ga.; stepchildren: Lisa and Ben Rogers, Kelli and Larry Fulton, all of Cleveland, and Trea and Corina Bromley of Harrison; brother, Charles Manis of Chattanooga; sister, Brenda Thomas of El Cajon, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Bramblett officiating.

He will lie in repose at the church from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.

Interment will be held Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, with military graveside honors provided by the Dalton American Legion Post No. 112.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel in Dalton from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 2115 East Morris St., Dalton GA 30721.
