The 2012-13 basketball regular season came to a close for Cleveland Christian after hosting Knoxville Christian Friday evening at the Crusaders’ gym. In early action, the Lady Crusaders took a commanding lead and played well on defense, eventually defeating The Lady Knights of Knoxville 56-41.

The CCS boys jumped out to an early lead in the finale and never looked back, defeating the Knights 70-56.

Coming off of her third triple-double and her 10th double-double of the season, Acacia Thompson had 13 points, 12 assists, 14 rebounds and 10 steals, for an even rarer quadruple-double. Carrie Claypoole had her fourth double-double, dropping in another 18 points.

“Three of our ladies had triple digits. Jenn (Corbitt) and Abigail (Wooden) did an excellent job under the goal, keeping Knoxville from getting any second shot opportunities. Now we regroup and focus on the SCAA tournament next week,” said coach John Thompson.

Jennifer Corbitt had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Abigail Wooden had eight points and 17 rebounds. Emily Sexton also added two points on the evening.

“It’s always good to send our seniors off on a good note and end a regular season with a quality win.” coach Larry Davis added, “The whole team played well. We go into the SCAA tournament feeling pretty good. Anything can happen come tournament time.”

In CCS boys action, Xavier Jordan had his 11th double-double of the season with 36 points and 23 rebounds. Chris Reynolds added 14 points, Matthew Chambless 11 points, Bo Martin seven and Naaman Mowery 2.

Both teams await the announcement of the pairings for the first round of the Southern Christian Athletic Association season-ending tournament which begins next week.
