He was of the Church of God faith. He was a retired electrician from DuPont Corp. after 37 years of service.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having serving during the Vietnam War. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Birchwood Limestone Masonic Lodge No. 176 F&AM and the Alhambra Shrine in Chattanooga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Signor Jones Mattson and Ollie Mae Miller Mattson; and brother, Frank Bartley Mattson.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Wilma Mattson of Georgetown; children: Dennis Richard Mattson and wife, Susie, of Niota, Harold Jeffery Mattson of Athens, David Risenhoover and wife, Sharon, of Cleveland and Dean Risenhoover of Cleveland; grandchildren: Jonathan Mattson, Emily Mattson, Tamara Fisher, Matt Risenhoover and Marty Rishenhoover; sister, Mildred Sneed of Decatur; brother, Dairl Mattson and wife, Frances, of Georgetown; sister-in-law, Lois Mattson of Georgetown; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Clear Springs Cemetery in McMinn County with military honors. Matt Risenhoover, Marty Risenhoover, Chris Sneed, Bart Mattson, Brad Mattson and Steve Sneed will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home concluding with a Masonic service at 8 p.m.
